Each Sunday service in J-house, it’s getting interesting. While I’m trying to watch carefully the behavior of the Japaneses, who just have begun the journey of a Christian life or curious people who wants to know more about God and his people and those who decided to step out in faith and follow Jesus long time ago, comes to the conclusion, the call of Jesus.
After the bilingual service, people split and go and talk with their own group about the meaning of the message. We ended up speaking with a guy, who is a English Teacher, about how human beings have been disobedient to God since the beginning of the times, for example, After God took the people of Israel out of the enslavement of Egypt, they started to complain to God about everything instead of giving thanks for their freedom.
“The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death.” Exodus 16 :3
but God was still merciful and gave them Manna, a bread from heaven. When Jesus fed five thousand people, the people were still asking for a miraculous sign to believe in him. “John 6: 30″. We can also find a similar story in Matthew 11: 20, where Jesus went to Korazin and Bethsaida and denounced the towns because they did not repent and turn to God even if he had performed so many miracles. So this English Teacher was starting to wander, why are there many earthquakes and why “good people” have to die. His own answer about the earthquakes was, it is because of the technology and the industries that they can be formed. We were trying to explain to him that the earthquakes could be create by it but in fact, long time ago before even the technology existed, there used to be earthquakes. So we decided to share about some stories of the Old Testament, to show him more of the character of God. The second question was the kind one that says, if God is so good, why good people have to die? I said to him that nobody is “good” in this world.
As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one” Romans 3 :10
God is righteous and do not tolerate people who do not follow his commandments. That’s why He sent his son Jesus for the redemption of the world. Jesus proved that no one can really fulfill the law but just himself!
So at the end, I said, but behold the “Good News” are coming and he said, is there really something good about it? That was hilarious but at the same time I did not want him to get confused, because this is a delicate subject, so we explained that Jesus came so we could have eternal life and that he forgave our sins so that we may have a intimate relationship with God once again and finally be seen righteous in God’s sight through the atonement of Jesus Christ.
Our time was over and he said that, it was quite interesting to know about the word “good” related to the perspectives from the world and from God. I’m gonna be praying for him and I ask you to intercede with prayer, please, so that he will be able to know more about Jesus and not only that but also that he will start to believe in the “Good news”! and of course for the all nation as well.
